“Our Energy, Our Future,” is a public campaign to engage consumer/members in a conversation with elected officials about the future electricity needs of the country and how meeting climate change goals may impact their utility bills.

At their 2008 Annual Meeting, NRECA introduced a public campaign to give cooperatives and their consumer-members a voice in the debate over energy legislation occurring now in state legislatures and Congress.

The campaign aims to motivate cooperative stakeholders -- employees, board members, consumer-members -- to ask elected officials hard questions about the cost and impact of climate change legislation.  It is important for our elected officials to remember that ultimately, the cost of any of any program or requirement will rest with the consumer.

Cooperative members are encouraged to participate in the campaign by visiting www.ourenergy.coop, where they will be able to send letters containing the questions to elected officials.

SAFETY TIP

tree_dont4.jpg

Don’t plant trees under power lines.

Spring time puts all of us in the mood for yard work and planting. Now is the perfect time to set out those yard trees we've been planning all winter, but don't forget to look up before digging. It is always easy to forget that tree seedlings can reach powerline height in only a few years. Remember, the right tree in the right place is a wonderous thing, but a tree in the wrong place can be a danger. If you have any questions about what tree to plant where, the BREC maintenance department will be glad to discuss it with you. Happy landscaping!

COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES IN ACTION

ice-storm-linework_0728.JPGicestorm5670.JPG

An advantage of being a Cooperative is knowing that in a major outage due to ice storms, tornados, or other severe weather conditions, we can rely on our sister coops to lend a hand.  BREC has been fortunate enough to have rarely experienced any of these serious outages in our service areas, however, we have been able to help many other cooperatives in the state of Missouri as well as surrounding states with their devastating circumstances.  Having the assurance that we can all join together to overcome the impossible is what makes the cooperative difference!
